VEIN TREATMENTS OFFERED
Endovenous AblationEndovenous Ablation is a treatment alternative to the past method of surgically stripping major veins. Using ultrasound visualization, the physician inserts a small, flexible tube into the damaged vein. Thermal energy, or heat, is then delivered inside the vein, which causes the vein to collapse and seal shut. Once the vein is closed, healthy veins around the closed vein restore normal blood flow and the varicose vein essentially vanishes.
Immediately after the procedure, a leg wrap is placed on the treated leg and the patient is up and walking that same day. Normal activity is resumed within 24 hours. Compression hose are worn for several days following the procedure to minimize possible swelling and to allow proper healing.
We offer our patient's convenience and quality assurance by performing endovenous ablation onsite in our fully functional operating room, comparable to those in hospitals.
Ambulatory Phlebectomy
Ambulatory phlebectomy is a procedure which allows for the removal of varicose veins at the surface of the skin. It is usually performed in conjunction with laser ablation. Small incisions are made next to the vein and sections of vein are removed through these nicks. Like the thermal ablation procedure, patients are given local anesthesia and conscious sedation.
Ambulatory phlebectomy should not be confused with the stripping of large veins, done decades ago, in an operating room under general anesthesia.
Like endovenous ablation, we perform this procedure at our facility
Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy involves using a micro-needle to inject a special kind of fluid, called a sclerosant, into the veins. The veins collapse, seal shut and are reabsorbed into the body. The number of treatments varies depending on the number, size and type of veins being treated. Typically a patient will receive several injections per treatment session.
Sclerotherapy is done in our office and generally normal activities can be resumed right away. After the treatment the leg is wrapped. Compression stockings or leg wraps may need to be worn for several days after treatment.
Surface Laser/Light Source Treatment
Surface/Light Source treatments are used only to treat the smallest of spider veins. A light beam creates heat inside treated veins that causes them to be sealed off and reabsorbed by the body. Multiple treatments are regularly required. This procedure is done in our office, requires no local anesthesia, and normal activity can be resumed following treatment. Prescription compression stockings may need to be worn for a few days.

I want to thank the staff at Atlanta Vein Specialists for the quality of care they provided in the treatment of my varicose veins. I had suffered with them for 20 years and was concerned about any surgical procedures since I was on a blood thinner. Dr. Mahadevan was able to perform the procedures without taking me off of my medications. Now my legs look and feel as good as new. After seeing my results, my wife chose Atlanta Vein Specialists to correct her venous disease.
