VEIN TREATMENTS
Millions of Americans suffer from some form of venous disorder or insufficiency. While some people seek treatment for cosmetic improvement, many seek relief from venous disease. The most common form is varicose veins which are known to cause symptoms that may include leg aching, pain, heaviness, fatigue, ankle swelling, muscle cramping, restlessness, itching and burning. Brownish or purple skin discoloration can appear over the vein, foot or ankle areas. Varicose veins may also lead to complications such as blood clots, bleeding, rashes and venous ulceration.Vein treatment causes abnormal veins to disappear and symptoms to improve. Treatment prevents more extensive vein disease from developing and also helps to keep serious complications from occurring.
There are two general treatment options: conservative, such as elevating legs or using compression stockings; and corrective measures, such as endovenous thermal ablation, ambulatory phlebectomy, sclerotherapy, and surface laser/light source treatment. In many cases, a combination of treatment methods works best.
The first step in determining whether you have venous insufficiency is an in-depth consultation. Since most veins are deep within the skin, vein disorders are not always visible to the naked eye. Therefore, a diagnostic ultrasound is often used to determine the cause and severity of the problem. Based on the diagnostic evaluation the course of action may include any or a combination of the following procedures.
